Pedroia Snatched the MVP

The hot hitting Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia wins the American League most valuable player award. He is one of the only second baseman in this century to get the award. After only being in the league for two years, this is a pretty big accomplishment for Pedroia. The last Red Sox player to get this award was Mo Vaughn in 1995. The 2007 rookie of the year led the the league in doubles and tied for the league in hits.

Dustin was absolutely the best pick for the AL MVP award, and that comes from the most rabid of Yankee fans. I enjoyed watching him play for the Sea Dogs and said to myself at that time that we would most assuredly be hearing more about him in future years.

As a die-hard Yankee fan, I have to go on record as totally devastated by the recent trades engineered by the Steinbrenners. Their flamboyant actions, taken without regard for what the sequalae would mean to the rest of the league, make it nigh on to impossible for the mid and small market teams to even think about competing for the talent necessary to win a championship. I want what is good for baseball, but the trades last week have not done the sport any favors.
